looking for a tennis ball
in a hedge of jasmine

my son's voice just above my ear

repeatedly finding the same gray sock
and a landscaper's business card
under the branches, shadows and leaves

"bah" "bah" "bah"

the sharp smell of compost
sticking to my arms
